You will need 3720 emulator software that supports encrypted connections for accessing CLAIM depending on your operating system:
Windows: Due to license restrictions,
HostExplorer (Hummingbird) is no longer available for distribution
to students. We will update this page once we have an
alternative Windows-based solution. In the meantime, users are encouraged to
come to the Supercomputing Helpdesk, where they can use our computers
to setup their accounts. We apologize for this inconvenience.
Macintosh OS X: This link provides 3270 emulation software and installation instructions for Macintosh OS X.
Linux: a 3270 client that supports SSL such as x3270
Activating Supercomputing Accounts Through CLAIM
Below shows an example session for activating a supercomputing account
through CLAIM:
Connect to tammvs.tamu.edu. You may have to specify it as tammvs.tamu.edu:992.
At the "aTm" screen, type CLAIM (shown in the screenshot
below in green font) and hit enter:
In the next screen, type your University Identification Number (UIN)
and hit enter:
Next, enter your CLAIM password and hit enter:
Select the "Logon-IDs" menu item by typing 1 and hitting enter:
Select menu item 3:
Enter your logon-ID and hit enter:
Place an x in the "Action" column next to the name
of each supercomputer account you want to activate. Use either
the up and down arrow keys to move from field to field or use the
tab key. Hit enter when all needed systems have been marked.
Note that fields with an * denote resources that
are already active.
The system will now present you with a separate screen for each
system you selected to activate, one after another. On each of
these screens, simply place an x in the field next
to the relevant account number and hit enter. For most users
(especially first-time users), only one account number will be
listed, so there will be no choice but to mark that one as active.
Users who are given multiple accounts to choose from and are
unsure which one to select may contact Greta Thomas at 845-4139 for
assistance.
You will be prompted to enter a password for each account that you
activate. Once this is done, you should be able to login immediately to
the system for which the account was activated.
