Scalar Architecture
Reduced Instruction Set (RISC) Architecture:
- load/store instructions refer to memory
- functional units operate on items in the register file
- memory hierarchy in the Scalar Architecture
- Most recently used items are captured in the cache
- Access to cache is much faster than access to memory
