Users must use an SSH client to log in to agave. Unencrypted methods such as telnet, rlogin, and XDM are no longer allowed for accessing any of our machines. SSH (Secure SHell) clients provide essentially the same functionality as telnet clients but encrypt network traffic between the user's machine and the remote machine. Note, please check the Machine Status at the SC web site for information about the availability of agave before contacting the helpdesk. Accessing agave from UNIX based machines
If you are using a UNIX based system (IRIX, Linux, SunOS, etc) you will typically need to type the following command from a shell terminal:
...where yourusername is your agave account username. You will then be prompted for your agave account password in order to establish the connection. If, however, you are connecting for the very first time, you will see a message similar to the following, before arriving at the password prompt:
Type yes and you will then be presented with the password prompt.
Although SSH is now in widespread use, an SSH client may not be installed by default on your system. Consult our SSH Clients page to see how you can obtain a free SSH client off the web. If you are a Windows user, you will need to install and use the PuTTY software to access agave. Consult our SSH Clients page to see how you can obtain PuTTY off the web. Then visit our SSH Client for Windows page to learn how to use PuTTY to establish a connection with agave. |
