Supercomputing: New Account Management System

Posted on: 6:13 PM, October 13, 2009

Dear Supercomputing User:

Starting today at mid-night the Supercomputing Facility will
activate a new accounting system. To use this system you start
by selecting the "Create/Manage Account(s)" tab under "User Services"
Then successively the system will prompt you for the needed inputs
while listing appropriate information related to your status as
user of the Facility.

There are two broad differences between the old and the new way of
doing things. First, the new accounting system does away with CLAIM.
We have consolidated all the needed functions of CLAIM "locally" into
one system. Second, the metric for machine or system use will no
longer be CPU time but wall-clock time per CPU processor allocated
(i.e., real time). The latter feature reflects far more realistically the use
of a computer system by running programs.

We think the new accounting system is much easier to use than the old one.
In that regard, we kindly and definitely request your prompt input when
you encounter or suspect errors, or make suggestions.

PLEASE NOTE:
That CLAIM has been withdrawn from service for supercomputing accounts.
